One of 2 dorms that house 220 cadets |
Next on the agenda was a stop at the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. We drove to the Visitor's Center and were informed that there was a 45 min. guided tour starting in about 30 minutes that would show us around the grounds and then end at the Chapel. It was perfect. We walked from the Visitor's Center up and over a hill to the right of the trees in this picture.
Side of Chapel...front is to the right |
Of course the grounds are immaculate and the Chapel was amazing. Bob was pretty over-whelmed by the architecture.
Front of Chapel |

Walls along the Catholic Church |
Downstairs again to the basement level where there was a Jewish prayer area. This was smaller and round. Again, beautifully done.
This plaque says "You are standing on Jerusalem stones from the Holyland presented to the U.S. Air Force Academy by the Israel Defense Forces 1966"
We heard a few stories about former cadets and along the walls but under cover were many plaques mounted, all with this information. We found out that incoming freshmen start June 1 and have basic training for about 6 weeks before they even get to the dorms for classes.
This seemed like a worthy topic for an entire blog!
That I would love to see in person Like BobI find the architecture mind blowing
