Day 4: We went to the downtown McKinney Farmer's Market which was wonderful! I had a very hard time not buying a selection of beautiful, organic, reasonably priced produce from the local farmer's but did manage to score 2 large butternut (picked the day before) squashes to make soup out of later in August. Bob found a local honey booth and bought a container of honey comb, one of his favorite foods. We realized it was time to get back on the road and after eating an early lunch we left McKinney at noon. On leaving the driveway we discovered a rather large, double crack in our windshield. We know when it happened on the way to McKinney but the heat with the car sitting for a few days must have weakened it enough to spread. Nice! :( It is stable for now and we hope to have it fixed in Gardiner in the next week or two.
We drove north to Salina, KS(435 miles) and stopped for a good night's rest before finishing the drive to Cheyenne, WY. We didn't see any flying monkeys, scarecrows or tin-men, but did see a lot of oil wells that were active and pumping along the three states (Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas). Gas prices didn't seem to go down though, sigh!
