We are certainly awed by the amount of snow. Our Florida brains are having a hard time with it all. The first cabin in the picture is our Caretaker's cabin. The farthest one is named Bunsen for Bunsen Peak, which we can see from our back windows.
Normally in the summer we have a few different animals come through the yard but this winter season has been exceptional.
Here is a mule deer, so named for the mulish looking ears. There have been 2 mamas and 2 yearlings coming by daily but an evening ago we had a small herd of 8 in the front yard.
We've always seen the evidence of bison in the yard but in the summer, they just don't come up here. We've had a herd of over 30 at once in the yard...front and back. This is a picture of the frozen pond with the bison hanging around it. There were 6 or 7 down there but they were mostly laying down so resemble large rocks. Seriously! That lump to the right of the standing bison is another one laying down.
This is another of the mule deer in the back with the Yellowstone River below. The other side of the river is the actual north end of the park and called Rattle Snake Butte.
I will have to create another post with the herds that are coming through.
Here are a few of the elk hanging around the front yard. We have had a herd of 30 to 40 elk in the yard since we came. At best we'll see 10-15 in the summer on occasion.
Here's our poor truck weathering another snow storm. It's doing much better now that we have arrived! This is the front yard from our cabin.
The actual address for up here is 42 Above The Rest. Gives us a feeling of importance...hahaha!
The bottom picture is our cabins from across the pond, frozen enough that bison and elk are walking across it. Never thought we'd see that!
All of what you see is Yellowstone Forever property. This all sits on an 80 acre tract that continues down the hill behind our cabins to the Yellowstone River.
